A special event was held at Croke Park on Friday to honour the Dublin hurling team who defeated Galway in the 1924 All-Ireland final – played on Jones’s Road 100 years ago yesterday.
Whitegate's Michael (Mick) Holland played on that team and scored 2 goals on the day. Dublin saw off Galway 5-3 to 2-6 in front of a crowd of 9,000. Whitegate's Tommy, Michael and Niall Holland, relatives of Michael Holland were invited to attend the event in Croke Park on Friday to celebrate the occasion.
Playing in the same position a century later, his Great Grand Nephew Mark Rodgers from Scariff scored 1-3 for Clare in their 2024 All-Ireland win.
