Whitegate GAA Hurling & Camogie club mourns the deeply sad passing of one of our greatest sons, Naoise Jordan, who passed away peacefully at his home on 16 September 2026.
To the wider GAA world, Naoise was a legendary Clare hurler and a respected former President of Clare GAA. But to everyone here in Whitegate, he was a pioneer who helped define the modern era of Whitegate hurling.
Naoise’s name will forever be etched in the folklore of our club. He was a central figure during our historic breakthrough era, famously guiding Whitegate to our second-ever Clare Senior Hurling Championship title in 1961. That monumental victory came just two years after he helped captain the side to an Intermediate Championship triumph in 1959.
An exceptional forward with a fierce love for the black and red jersey, Naoise’s playing career for the club spanned decades, as he proudly lined out for Whitegate until 1976.
Beyond his incredible club achievements, Naoise brought immense pride to the parish every time he wore the Banner jersey. Representing Clare from his minor days in 1956 up until his senior retirement in 1969, he showcased Whitegate’s hurling prowess on the biggest stages—including the famous clash against Kilkenny at Wembley Stadium in May 1958.
Naoise moved to Parteen in the late 60's where he Married his beloved Patsy and later went on to win a Junior league and Championship with Parteen.
Even after hanging up his boots, Naoise’s commitment to the GAA never wavered. As a former President of Clare GAA and a lifelong mentor, he remained a constant source of wisdom and support for younger generations of hurlers in Whitegate and beyond.

Reposing: McMahon Funeral Home, Blackwater, on Saturday, 19th September, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
Funeral Mass: St. Patrick's Church, Parteen, on Sunday, 20th September, at 2:00 pm.
Burial: Ballycannon Cemetery, Meelick.
